Community matters

BLM is committed to making a positive difference to society and throughout our offices there are a variety of firmwide, office, team or individual activities taking place to benefit local people and charities that you can get involved with.

From providing pro bono legal advice to taking part in a mentoring scheme, you could make a real difference to people's lives while gaining valuable skills and experience. Most of our trainees participate in CSR work and many find that it gives them a highly rewarding and different perspective of how we can have a positive impact on others.

Our CSR projects include:

Patron of Barnardo's. In December 2010 BLM staff selected children's charity Barnardo's to be the firm's national charity for the next two years. Staff will continue to help the charity in its mission to transform over 100,000 disadvantaged children's lives every year.

City Gateway mentoring scheme. For the fourth year running, BLM has hosted CV and interview workshops for trainees from City Gateway, a charity which offers support and guidance to 16-24 year-olds that will assist them when entering future employment or further education. BLM staff have worked with more than 85 trainees and the firm has offered four trainees apprenticeships at the firm.

Legal law clinic at Liverpool University. We provide CV advice and support to students who are likely to suffer some form of disadvantage when applying for careers in law.

Manchester Metropolitan University mentoring scheme. We are involved in a joint project with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Partners of Prisoners and Families Support Group. The project involves acting as supervisors to law students who offer legal advice to families of prisoners.
