Yasmin: I initially joined BLM London as a trainee doing my first seat in occupational disease. I then transferred to BLM Southampton to complete my training doing seats in the areas of construction, recovery and catastrophic injury. It was an exciting time to transfer as the office had recently invested in new and bigger premises at the centre of Southampton and was expanding its client base considerably.

What struck me was that there is a consistent theme of high quality training and dedicated professionalism, coupled with a friendly and supportive atmosphere through all my seats. From an early stage I was drafting witness statements, carrying out site inspections, preparing advice to the clients and contributing to a wide range of matters, working both individually and as part of a larger team. During my training I attended high profile cases at the High Court and Technology and Construction Courts in London; having been involved in preparing the cases it was fantastic experience to then see how the issues were decided.

As my confidence and knowledge grew so did the level of responsibility that was entrusted to me; this ensured that my training experience was challenging and rewarding. In each seat there has been an active interest to encourage my career development and I felt fully prepared in making the transition from trainee to newly qualified solicitor. Since qualifying I have been involved in high value catastrophic cases, and also a number of cases which have jurisdictional aspects, in addition to running my own cases in the general litigation area.
