“Friendly firm, which encourages a
good work/life balance.”
Read Law at the Queen’s University of Belfast. Lucy was a paralegal at BLM before beginning her training contract in September 2006.
The first year of my training contract has involved two seats in the personal injury division (public liability; employers’ liability and road traffic accident claims). Early responsibility is actively encouraged.
What made the work more enjoyable was that I did not spend all my first year at a desk! I was given the opportunity to do advocacy in a district judge’s chambers. I was fortunate to attend a month long inquest on behalf of North Wales Police, which gave me a taster of how the local media can work.
I will shortly be starting my final seat in the commercial litigation department in our Manchester office in the New Year.
I enjoy the social life at BLM. I recently organised a quiz night to raise funds for the Princes Trust. I attended this year’s charity walk in the Peak District and was a member of the winning Liverpool team! Another positive is that all the partners are approachable, and I have always felt comfortable asking questions, which is so important, particularly when you first start out!
I was attracted to BLM because of its friendly working environment, which encourages a good work/life balance. I was also aware of the firm’s involvement in many high profile cases and committees, and knew that with the breadth of experience amongst the partners my training would be excellent.
Lucy qualified into the personal injury department in March 2008. |
