Judicial reviews challenge the lawfulness or appropriateness of a decision or action by a public body.
BLM has extensive experience of challenging and defending a wide range of decisions made by public bodies, including hospitals, primary care trusts, prisons, immigration detention centres, secure training centres and healthcare providers.
Interesting judicial review cases dealt with by BLM include:
- CPS v Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths (2003) WLR 504
- K and D v Secretary of State for the Home Department (2006) EWHC 980 (Medical examinations in immigration detention centres)
- B v GSL (UK) Limited (2007) EWHC 2227 (use of handcuffs during medical treatment)
- Dr S v X NHS Hospital Trust (induction for failure to permit the doctor to have legal representation at a disciplinary investigation hearing)
