Electoral law

We undertake election petition and advisory work on behalf of returning officers throughout England relating to both parliamentary and local elections. We can advise on issues as they arise during the ballot process as well as advising on any subsequent election petition.

Postal ballots are currently closely scrutinised by politicians, the electorate and the media. We are well placed to advise on such ballots having acted for the returning officer in the reported case of Edgell v Glover and Anor, an important case on a number of issues relating to postal ballots but in particular the interpretation of s.48(1) Representation of the People Act 1983.
