Freedom of information
The Freedom of Information Act 2006 created, for the first time, a broad statutory right of access to information held by public authorities. The requirements of compliance with the Act must be considered in the light of the numerous exemptions (using public interest elements) under the Act and the risk of claims from third parties by disclosing sensitive and confidential information. BLM has substantial experience of advising public authorities on compliance with the Act. We have also advised a range of commercial organisations and professionals where they have been consulted following requests for information relating to them.
