Fraud

BLM’s fraud teams handle both commercial fraud and fraudulent insurance claims. We receive instructions from insurers seeking advice on policy liability where the possibility of insurance fraud is suspected. We train our solicitors to be alert to the tell-tale indicators of fraud, with potentially fraudulent claims referred back to our clients.

The most common types of insurance fraud are:

  • bogus claims
  • exaggerated losses
  • fraudulent devices used to support an otherwise genuine claim.

The success of our growth in this area is the result of our market-leading legal and intelligence resources. It also follows from the realistic and pragmatic approach adopted for dealing with potential fraud cases, where we deliver the optimum balance between proactive assessment and investigation of fraud and achievable outcomes. Our strategy is designed to protect your brand, maintain the integrity of the relationship with the policyholder whenever possible and minimise costs.

We work with clients to implement internal processes and procedures to identify and capture fraud and we investigate and defend insurance fraud claims arising under motor, EL, PL, professional indemnity and property policies. Our products and services to clients cover:

  • Motor
  • Commercial / Domestic property
  • Household
  • Policy liability
  • EL/PL
  • Goods in transit
  • Procurement, employee and intermediary fraud
  • Recovery

What the legal directories say:

"Sources suggest that the Birmingham office of BLM has 'a strong team that is as good as anything on the market'. It is particularly well regarded for catastrophic injury cases, but also benefits from considerable expertise in public liability matters and claims fraud."
