Healthcare team expands with new Manchester appointment

01 Mar 2010
Building upon its established presence in the healthcare and regulatory sector, Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP (BLM) is delighted to announce the appointment of new partner, Aidan Carr.

Aidan joins the firm’s Manchester office on 1 March from Rowlands Solicitors LLP, where he was senior partner and head of regulatory and criminal litigation. With expertise in defending prosecutions brought by various regulatory authorities, such as the General Dental Council, the Health & Safety Executive, and the Environment Agency, Aidan will work alongside partners in the national BLM healthcare team to advise clients on healthcare disputes,  disciplinary proceedings and criminal investigations.

Commenting upon Aidan’s appointment, BLM head of healthcare in Manchester, Michael Brown, said: “We are delighted to welcome Aidan to our expanding national healthcare team and believe that our continued recruitment in this arena will enable us to build upon our current reputation.”

Aidan’s appointment follows the arrival of partner Clare Chapman who joined the firm in January from RadcliffesLeBrasseur. Clare specialises in representing members of the medical and dental professions in disciplinary proceedings, as well as criminal investigations, inquests and public inquiries. She is recognised by a leading legal directory Chambers & Partners 2010 as “astoundingly committed and highly recommended for dealing with sensitive cases”.

BLM’s continued investment in the healthcare arena was evident throughout 2009, with the appointment of partner Joe Wakeford who joined BLM Southampton from Beachcroft LLP where he was a consultant. Joe has particular expertise in advising clients on all types of catastrophic injury litigation, including clinical negligence, an area in which he has substantial experience after working with the National Health Service Litigation Authority panel firms for 12 years.

The breadth of BLM’s healthcare experience has supported and assisted a diverse range of clients including medical defence organisations, royal colleges, alternative medical practitioners, major private hospitals and their insurers. This year the firm was recognised by Chambers & Partners as “one of the stalwarts of this sector”.
