"A must for NHS staff"

27 Sep 2011

Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP hosted the first in the series of three seminars last week for those working within or alongside the National Health Service, during which a team of healthcare specialists offered practical guidance on a range of topics pertinent to this field of work.

Taking place in the London office on 21 September, the event focused upon NHS complaints, risk management and reducing litigation, as well as treatment, consent and inquests.

Partner Claire Batchelor began the seminar by addressing common themes of complaints, the lessons learned and the role of the Health Service Ombudsman and Regulatory bodies. She was followed by partner Joe Wakeford who highlighted the principles of consent, treatment uses and when and how to use the court.  To complete the seminar, partner Jane Lang joined forces with associate Jane Taylor to advise delegates on how to prepare for an inquest, what to expect on the day of the inquest and the action to be taken after the inquest.

35 delegates attended from organisations such as Dental Protection Limited, General Healthcare Group, Medical Protection Society, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, Nuffield Health, Royal College of Nursing and Zurich Insurance plc and some very positive feedback has been received. Comments from attendees include:

"Two of the best presentations I've seen in recent years"
"Very much enjoyed this informative seminar. A must for NHS staff"

The next in the series of healthcare seminars will take place in Manchester on Thursday 29 September, followed by the event in Bristol on Wednesday 12 October.
